Almost any image worth carving into glass is worth carving into mirror with very beautiful and different results. Adding color with paint or any of various metalic foils or even a combination of paint and foil lends incredible richness and depth.

SOME EXAMPLES OF SANDCARVED MIRRORS

This is a simple design, leafed with a composite metalic foil with beautiful results. As with many of these mirrors, they start as plain, square mirrors. Student Curtiss Hite then cut it in half with the sandblaster for this unique effect.

Using the same technique (cutting the mirror in two pieces using the sandblaster), Kathy Hadley then used both sides for and interesting interlocking two-piece mirror.

Examples of images that were carved by students on mirror, then painted with Color Magic and backed by foil, or leafed with various metalic foils.

Dee Whitbeck made this beautiful mirror for his daughter Fanny.

This is the back side of a mirror carved by Rebecca Hite. You can see the foil(two different different values of gold leaf) applied to the reverse side.

The front side of the same mirror shows how beautiful this technique is.

Here Patrice has cut the entire mirror shape with the sandblaster showing that any shape is possible. Patrice has also demonstrated her unique feeling for color. (See Patrice's page in the Student Gallery.)

Patrice executed this gorgeous design with the sandblaster, then colored and foiled it.
